Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that is derived from the bark of the willow tree and has a potent keratolytic action. It reduces the coherence of keratinocytes, thus cleaving the bonds between superficial cells. It enhances the exfoliation process, therefore removing superficial cells. It rejuvenates and revitalises the skin. Its astringent, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties regulate sebum secretion and reduce the oiliness of oily-acneic skin.
